Santa Barbara Liposuction
Since the introduction of liposuction in the 1980s, liposuction has become one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. When performed by a board certified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Sheffield or Dr. Lowenstein, patients can be assured of not only the best results, but also the safest procedures.
Liposuction is performed by first applying a special solution to the area of concern, which allows for access to the fatty tissue, as well as reduction of bleeding and improved anesthesia. Special instruments, called cannulas, are then used to remove the fatty tissue with suction. Popular names for this procedure are liposculpture and liposelection. These are really just refined techniques of liposuction, which may include re-application of fat in some regions to augment certain areas. Many fancy names for these types of procedures are often used for advertising purposes. Dr. Lowenstein and Dr. Sheffield perform these and other special applications of liposuction, tailored to the patient's wishes, to achieve the most optimal results.
Following liposuction, a compressive garment is worn to reduce the occurrence of very rare complications such as fluid collections. Recovery from this procedure is usually rapid and easy, with a very high rate of patient satisfaction.
